Hatt is a Korean artist based in Los Angeles, CA.
She grew up a nerdy kid obsessed with shonen manga, anime, and Western cartoons–doodling here and there, but not seriously. At 18, she accidentally wandered into a manga convention in Seoul where fellow nerds gathered to celebrate their hyperfixations. Inspired, she grabbed a dip pen and decided to join the fun.
Drawing 800+ pages of comics for fanzines and her own stories turned out to be a great artistic training. She eventually debuted as an artist in Comic Flapper, a Japanese manga magazine, marking the start of her nine-year career shaping four comic book series as illustrator, writer, or both, for Korean and Japanese comic industry.
And then, all of a sudden, Hatt thought it would be fun to try exploring other forms of visual storytelling. She put an end to her self-taught artist era by entering Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and invested all the savings in school (she highly discourages others from doing this).
Since graduating in 2018, she has been happily working in animation as a background designer, first on Muppet Babies at Oddbot, and now on Big City Greens at Disney TVA.
She loves kimbap, milk tea, shiny new art supplies, and Tareh.
Tareh is Hatt’s outdoor activity supervisor and a suspiciously foxy-looking rescue pup.

hattssi is a small art business creating prints and stickers inspired by Hatt’s favorite anime/western animation/live action shows and films, and sometimes her own characters. You can spot her table at conventions across the States, but only when the convention gods smile kindly upon her.
Hatt was an active part of the Korean con scene from 2000 to 2006, an era that became both the solid foundation of her art journey and the source of countless cherished memories and friendships. Now she is thrilled to be back on the circuit, yapping about her favorite characters with fellow fans.
The name hattssi comes from hatt, meaning the sun, and -ssi, a korean suffix meaning “seed” or “Ms/Mr”.
hattssi’s event info is available here. Also hattssi has its own separate Instagram account to post scribbles and event updates.
